OE. ed- = OHG. it(a, id- (MHG. ite-, it-, mod.G. dial. it-), ON. ið-, Goth. id-, again, backwards (= L. re-). Frequent in OE.; a few examples survived into ME.; see edbote, edgrew, edhalde.
